Thank you!

Thank you to everyone for a wonderfully successful Grade 8 Graduation tonight!  The students shone their brightest, and we sincerely hope you enjoyed the ceremony :)  Thank you to everyone who contributed food and drink - we appreciated it immensely!

Lastly, thank you for sharing your children with us each and every day.  I think I speak for Mr Bax and Mrs Schroder when I say that this year has been terrific.  I hope you have a restful summer and that gearing up for highschool is more fun than stressful!

All the best,
Miss Skelton :)

Graduation!

Hello everyone,

It's hard to believe, but we are just two days away from Graduation!  At this time, I would like to thank all of you for your support this year - I have had a great one with this group of students, and I'm certain that they'll have lots of success in highschool :)

Last week, paperwork came home with information for you and your family with regards to the schedule for the night of Grad. It also had my contact information for food donations. If you haven't seen it, hopefully your graduate has it buried in a backpack somewhere!  As far as the schedule goes, students have been advised to be at the highschool around 6:30 - we will have them lining up at 6:45 in the cafetorium, and the ceremony will begin promptly at 7. At the moment, we have pizza, cookies, cupcakes, samosas, pop, water, chips (2), and fruit/veggie trays being donated.  We could still use paper plates, napkins, plastic cutlery, and small cups, if possible.  Also, if there is a food item that you'd like to donate, my contact information is skelton.fes@gmail.com - if you e-mail me, I'll make sure that I get back to you as soon as possible.  All donated items can be brought to the cafetorium at the beginning of the evening (between 6:30 and 6:45). Thank you to all who have donated so far!

If you plan to keep your child home on Tuesday and/or Wednesday, please e-mail me or send in a note indicating so and I'll let the office know so that Safe Arrival won't have to call.

Tomorrow, we're heading over to the highschool for a practice/run through of the location for the ceremony for the students.  A letter went home on Friday indicating that we would be heading over - if you DO NOT want your child participating in this "mini-fieldtrip", please contact myself, Mr Bax, or Mrs Schroder directly to let us know.

Thank you again for everything this year - it's been great!  See you Tuesday night!
Miss Skelton :)

Pictures

Hello there,

Just wanted to let you know that we had a great Grad Trip!  The kids were excellent :)
I've added to the student blog tonight regarding sharing of Grad Trip photos - please see this link to read the post: http://gr8skelton1112.blogspot.ca/2012/06/photos.html

I've also asked students to bring in (or e-mail Mrs. Bickley) photos that they might like to share with the graduating class as part of the Grad video.  These pictures will be returned to you (as long as they're labeled with your child's name).  Please start digging, as we'd like to have them in by Wednesday so that we can scan them. Photos won't be accepted after Friday.

Thanks a bunch!  Have a great week,
Miss Skelton :)

Grad Trip!

Unbelievably, we only have FIVE weeks left of this school year!  That means our Grad Trip is fast approaching.  We had a discussion with the students yesterday about a number of items that will be required of them for the trip - I've summed that discussion up here for you so that you're on the same page as they are!

On Monday, June 4 - students need to be at school at 7:30 AM (please do not arrive before this time, as teachers will not be arriving until 7:30 as well).  The bus will leave promptly at 8.
On Wednesday, June 6 - students will be arriving back at the school between 4:00 and 5:00 PM.  Please be available to pick your child up for these times.
Rules during the trip:
- Cellphones are not permitted on the trip;
- During free time activities, students must stay in a group of a minimum of THREE students and are NEVER alone;
- While at the hotel, students are not allowed in other students' rooms;
- Evenings - students cannot leave rooms after 10:00 PM, unless it's an emergency.;
- Students are expected to adhere to Fieldcrest's dress code (for bathing suits, we recommend that students bring the "suit that covers the most").
Money:
Students have to pay for at least two of their lunches (three if they don't bring one on the first day).  We estimate $10-15 for lunches, so a minimum of about $50 for food is suggested.  For souvenirs, arcades, and activities on Clifton Hill, it will be at your discretion - in the past, we've found that students who bring a total of around $100 have enough to sustain them for the three days.
Supervision:
The Fieldcrest Staff attending the trip are:  Darrell Bax, Stephanie Skelton, Adrianne Schroder, Jenn Murray, and David Brownlee.  We will supervise students during the day.  At night, we have a night-time security person who will be stationed in our hallway, and who can contact us if they sense an issue in the rooms at night.
Medication:
We will collect any and all medications on Monday morning at 7:30 - this includes prescription medications, Advil, Tylenol, and any other OTC that the students will be bringing.  Students are NOT to have their own medication on them (inhalers and epipens are the exceptions). Mrs. Schroder will be administering the medication throughout the trip. All specific details should be directed to her on Monday morning.

I've added a list of "what to bring" on the student blog.  If you have any further questions, please contact me at skelton.fes@gmail.com (sometimes e-mails don't reach my mail1.scdsb account - seems to block gmail and hotmail e-mails).

Looking forward to the trip!
Miss Skelton :)
